VHS was formed in 1999 from the de-merger of a substantial East Midlands firm. The Criminal Defence team from that firm became VHS.
Fletchers was founded in 1985 by the late Dick Fletcher and has always specialised in criminal defence and Family Law.
On April 7th 2008 we merged to create a major force in the East Midlands criminal defence field. The expertise of both firms was acknowledged in the authoritative Chambers & Partners review of English Law firms.
We now have 8 partners all of whom are Duty Solicitors, and six are also Higher Courts Advocates – with Rights of Audience in the Crown Court, Court of Appeal and House of Lords. From our two offices we deal with the whole criminal process from Police Station through to the Crown Court.
We have a contract with the Legal Services Commission to represent individuals in complex crime cases, often called very high cost cases.
We are also proud of our specialist regulatory practice headed by Steven Varley, an acknowledged leader in his field. We are one of only four firms in the Midlands contracted to prosecute on behalf of the Health & Safety Executive.
Additionally, we have a track record of representing pharmaceutical professionals who are being investigated by the police, professional and other regulatory bodies.
Road Traffic Law and Driver Defence is always important to our clients, and for that reason we have a dedicated department specialising in Motoring Law.
Our busy Family Law Department includes a member of the Law Society Children's panel.
From our offices in Nottingham and Ilkeston we have a strong regional presence and are able to represent clients based anywhere in England and Wales.
